According to the American Academy of Pediatrics drowning is the second leading cause of unintentional injury death for children and adolescents. With a high number of pools in Arizona, parents should pay particular attention to keeping their children safe around water.

Here are a few tips to keep your children safe around pools:

  • Never leave your children alone in or near the pool, even for a moment.
  • Install a fence or acceptable alternative barrier to completely separate the pool from the house.
  • Keep rescue equipment such as a life preserver near the pool.
  • Learn CPR and make sure anybody supervising children around water knows CPR.
  • Do not leave toys in the pool so that children are not tempted to play with them after swimming time is over.
